Getting Out Of Your Rut …


Do you ever get stuck in a place that you just can’t seem to get out of?

You wake up just not feeling yourself,

you use your “go to” happy tricks and they are just not getting you out of your funk …

Its ok to not always be OK

You go on Facebook it is a “false reality” people only put what they want you to see not the whole truth. Which can lead us to feel even worse. ( I challenge you to limit your Facebook time and keep it very focused).

I listened to a really good podcast this past week and guest was Dr. Brooke Kalanick. She was talking about how in today’s society we as people (especially women) don’t allow ourselves to say we are “having a bad day” or feeling “over whelmed  or stressed”. We down play it by saying “I should be thankful for what i have”, or “Some people have 4 kids I should be fine with 2” and so on and so fourth. The more we down play our emotions the more they “eat” away at us literally and figuratively.

So It is ok to say we are feeling “off” or overwhelmed we are human but also have tools and tricks to get you out of your rut and feeling like yourself again.

Here are 4 things I do that have really helped me out of “noise” in my head:

1. Mediate

2. Journaling 

3. reading my goals or inspirational quotes or sayings 

4. exercise 

I also have learned that allowing myself to be ok with having 1 morning or being ok with not always be 100% 100% of the time I am able to move on much quicker and get myself back on track.

Here is a great quote that I recently saw that I thought was a really good read to keep in your focus often!

It is very easy to get complacent, comfortable, or forget to follow your dreams but keep this in mind every time you make an excuse as to why you are not fulfilling your passion, you are stuck in a rut, or you wish you were in a better place.

Fit Chic Breakfast Quesadilla

Breakfast can get so mundane and boring so here’s a recipe that will Spice it up a little! This is great for people who don’t care for leftovers too. They are quick, easy and delicious and you can change it up to any variety you wish!


1 tablespoon of coconut oil for cooking

2 Corn Torillas

*optional 2 strips of cooked bacon ..

1-2 Eggs, scrambled

Vegan or Raw Cheddar Cheese
Guacamole (To keep it simple use Wholly Guacamole)
Heat up a frying pan with coconut oil. Place corn tortilla into pan. Top with a layer of cheese, and a layer of eggs (and cooked bacon if adding), then add second corn tortilla to the top.
Once cheese begins to melt on the bottom layer flip the quesadilla and cook until cheese is melted and tortillas are crispy and lightly browned.
Top with salsa and guacamole to taste.

Now that warm weather is on the horizon, and the need for something refreshing is upon us, it’s time to take a closer look at white wine. Lucky for all you chardonnay and pinot grigio lovers, it actually comes with its own host of good health benefits.

Three of them, to be exact ― enough reason to grab a glass, a wine opener, and a sunny patio.

Here’s the health benefits you can get out of a glass of white:

1. White wine can help prevent heart attacks, increase the amount of HDL “good” cholesterol and decrease the chances of blood clotting. White wine also has anti-inflammatory properties, meaning it can be helpful in reducing pain associated with some chronic conditions.  Flavonoids, the antioxidant found in wine, can help prevent cancer.

2. Just like red, white wine can help improve metabolism and contribute to weightless. According to a 2004 study from the University of Hohenheim (Germany).  The study found that patients interested in losing weight and on a calorie-restricted diet may benefit from drinking white wine.  A diet with 10 percent of energy derived from white wine was found to be as effective in assisting weight loss as a diet with 10 percent of energy derived from juices–plus the additional benefits from consuming wine.

3. White wine Makes You Smarter: Resveratrol may help improve short-term memory. After just 30 minutes of testing, researchers found that participants taking resveratrol had a significant increase in retention of words and showed faster performance in the portion of the brain associated with the formation of new memories, learning, and emotions.

Avocado Miso Shrimp Salad …

It’s Salad season and this is one you won’t get tired of!
Salad Ingredients: 
1 teaspoon minced garlic
½ pound raw shrimp, tails removed
½ tablespoon coconut oil
1½ cups sliced avocados (2 small)
1 cucumber
4 cups chopped romaine
1 tsp of cilantro
cashews for toppings
For the dressing:
1 1-inch piece of fresh peeled ginger
3 tablespoons melted sesame oil
3 tablespoons lime juice
2 tablespoons honey
1½ tablespoons white miso
½ teaspoon minced garlic
¼ teaspoon salt
  1. Heat the oil in a small skillet over medium high heat. Add the honey, garlic and shrimp;  Saute for a few minutes on each side until the shrimp is lightly pink and no longer clear.
  2. Dice the avocados in half; Peel and dice the cucumber. Chop the romaine into pieces and cut the shrimp.
  3. Place all the dressing ingredients together in a food processor or blender ( I use my ninja) until smooth.
  4. In a bowl place lettuce, cucumber, avocado, and shrimp mixture.
  5. Pour the dressing over the salad and top with fresh cilantro and peanuts for crunch.

8 Fit Ways to Give Yourself a Happier, Healthier, More Fruitful Life!

I here people talk about  wishing they need more in life i.e. happiness, wealth, time, etc … Well here are some great tools, resources, and steps to get exactly that!

1. Log your time. Lots of people tell me they “Don’t have enough time” …Well PROVE IT! Chances are after logging you will see you have a lot more time than you think!  Use this helpful “Time Logger”  Embrace the process and see where your time goes. See if that matches up with how you’d like to be spending your time.

2. Work on your Dream Building. Make a good long list or board of anything you’d like to do or have more of in your life.When you put things on paper it becomes a part of your sub conscience and the more you look the more you are apt to get it!

3. Prune tasks that don’t serve you – Why are you wasting time on trying to do it all? Start to look at your schedule and see where you could really grow excel and succeed and then start pruning the things around it! For example, if you hate grocery shopping order your groceries online. If you hate to cook get a meal delivery service. If you don’t like to workout hire a personal trainer. If you don’t enjoy numbers hire a bookkeeper to manage the books …etc.. Now you are free’d up to do the things and tasks that serve you and the people around you!

4. Make Sure You Are Having Fun – Schedule in something you want to do for you each day: a manicure, a walk with a friend, a happy hour, a cooking class etc .. The more you treat this like an appointment the more it is apt to happen. When you include friends and family you are now committing to someone else that you will do it too! For most people it is hard to make time for ourselves, but you need to fill up your cup so you are the best to everyone around you!

5. Take it One Step at a Time; We are all guilty of having a TDL that is unrealistic and overwhelming! Keep your list to 5 items or less, starting with the item that will serve you most! Feeling accomplished is a great way to keep you motivated to continue to attack those tasks.

6. Positively Nourish Your Body: Choose a simple habit to work on each week to keep you feeling great on the inside and out. Start with drinking more water, then eating more veggies, being active for 20+ minutes a day! A little goes a long way and it doesn’t take much to get a lot!  A lot of eating is more mindless than we think. Put fruit in a bowl on the counter, and move chips and candy to a hidden high shelf Over time, these choices add up and replace the bad habits for the good!

7. Be Grateful to Get Out of Bed: Anticipation makes us into morning people. I remember listening to an interview with Puff Daddy and he said it was hard for him to sleep, because he was so excited to get to work in the morning. What would make your morning so exciting that you’d be happy to get out of bed? The first thing I do when I wake up is immediately say 5 things I am grateful for first thing and it really helps put things in perspective right from the start! Design a morning routine that gets you excited to start the day. This helps you focus on things  you want to do, rather than your obligations or things you have to do.

8. Surrond Yourself with Positivity and Growth – You are a representation of the top 5 people you surround yourself with .. Who are you interacting with daily? Are they positive uplifting, motivating etc… Or do they bog you down, make you feel negatively towards life. If the later is the case, “Drop it like its hot”! I hide people that don’t serve me on Facebook, I limit t.v. to things that enhance me. I listen to leadership podcasts, empowering individuals, and people who I want to be around on a constant basis.

Happy Birthday To My Fit Chic Mamma …

Today is a very important birthday blog for me to share … It’s My mother’s birthday!

She is turning 58, and the reason I can say this to all my readers is because she looks incredible!

She is an example of how continuous care and priority of your health really pays off in a major way. Not only does she look 40, she is working out more efficiently and harder than most of my friends my age!

She shows up everyday with a determined face and the will to persevere through workouts.

She does not allow her age to become an excuse; in fact she turns it into a motivation to continue to get better.

She is so inspiring to many. Her dedication and constant desire to get better is enthralling and contagious to many that she comes in contact with; including me!

She is a Pilates instructor as well, and is amazing teacher who inspires individuals to have a “no excuse” mentality and push themselves to reach outside of their comfort zone and move efficiently in ways that people never imagined they could!

It is so fun to have coached her and see the impeccable improvements she has made on the inside and out!

All because she makes little improvements day in and day out and never gives up. She is consistently creating new goals and bench marks in her health and fitness journey to ensure that she will continue to feel better with age.

Thank you for being my number one inspiration and leading me on my path of fitness! If you had not instilled this in me, I would not be here writing to all of you today!

Fit Chic Strawberry Popsicles …

Summer is approaching and since it is the first day of June, let’s start it with a good cold healthy treat. Growing up, I used to always LOVE popsicles, this recipe is not only easy, but it’s delicious!


3 cups diced strawberries

1 can full fat coconut milk

1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract

3 tablespoons of honey


Puree strawberries in a blender or food processor. Add 1 tablespoon of honey and continue to blend then set to the side.

In a separate bowl mix coconut milk, vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons of raw honey together. Mix until combined thoroughly.

Pour 1-2 tablespoons of strawberry puree into each popsicle mold. Pour 1-2 tablespoons of coconut mix into each mold. Continue to switch between the berry puree and the coconut mixture until popsicle molds are filled.

Place molds in freezer and allow popsicles to freeze completely before serving, (about 5-8 hours).

Fit Chic Tips To Kick Start Your Morning …

What we choose to do first thing in the morning really sets a precedence for what our day week year etc .. are going to look like. If you look at the most successful people their am habits are a big reason why they are in the position they are in ….

1. GIVE A Little Gratitude: “My morning routine starts with gratitude. Before I get out of bed, I think of three specific things for which I’m grateful. This practice gives my mind a positive focus and helps me see opportunities throughout the day. It also puts you in a great mood!

2. Sweat It Out: There is such an ingredient for success in your fitness when you workout in the am. It will give you a sense of accomplishment first thing and energy to get through your day. Even if it is 100 pushups, or my go to workout 150 situps, 100 squats, and 50 pushups when I am in a hurry that will prep you for your day ahead.

3. Dream Up . These days we talk about our physical health but we need to work on our mental health just as much. The morning is the perfect time to spend some quiet time inside your mind meditating, visualizing, and or dream building. Take a moment to visualize your day ahead of you, focusing on the successes you will have. Even just a minute of visualization and positive thinking can help improve your mood and outlook on your work load for the day. Create a vision of what you want and what you are working for and it will give perspective and purpose to your day.

4. Get the “Goat” Done First: A goat is a task you know you need to get done, but you put it off and put it off even though you would feel so much better if you just got it done! Here’s an easy tip to save yourself the stress – do that least desirable task on your list first. Instead of anticipating the unpleasantness of it, get it out of the way. The morning is the time when you are typically well rested and your energy level is up. Therefore, you are more well equipped to handle more difficult projects. And look at it this way, your day will get progressively easier too.  You will also feel much more accomplished and that will steam role you to create more and more tasks on your list.

5. Spend QT Time With Family: Some successful people use the mornings to invest in family time, whether reading stories to the kids or cooking a big breakfast together, having breakfast conversation. Go and get coffee … it is great to have “good” family time when you are full of energy and spunk instead of the end of the day when you are exhausted and don’t have any energy left.

Now you have the tips to be as successful as you are capable of being. Early risers are more likely to be optimistic, have better performance, greater career success and higher wages.

Fit Chic Fajita Chicken

This is another Taco Tuesday recipe for the record books! It is very easy and really tasty!

For the Chicken:

3 chicken breasts or 6 thin sliced chicken cutlets ¼-inch thick

Guacamole (Recipe Below)

½ red bell pepper, sliced

½ yellow bell pepper, sliced

½ green bell pepper, sliced

For the Guacamole: 

4 ripe avocados

2 cloves of garlic

1/2 cup of red onion

cilantro to taste

a pinch of Tony’s Creole Seasoning

a splash of salsa

(for added spice put in jalapeno)

Directions for the Guacamole: 

Mash avocados, then add chopped onion, cilantro and garlic. Mix throughout, and then add salsa, creole seasoning, and jalapeno.

  1. In a small bowl, make the guacamole and set aside.
  2. For the chicken breasts, slice them longways into 2 even slices and firmly pound the chicken
  3. Next stuff the chicken breasts evenly with 6 bell pepper slices in the middle of the chicken cutlet, roll up and secure with a toothpick. Repeat this step until all the cutlets have been rolled up and placed in a prepared baking dish.
  4. Brush tops of chicken with guacamole topping and bake, uncovered, at 375 for about 25 to 30 minutes or until there is no pink in the middle of the breast.
  5. Serve with Cauliflower Spanish Rice or over lettuce
