We Are Who “WE” Say We Are …..

“If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.” –Tony Robbins

I was recently watching a Ted Talk with Tony Robbins as the speaker. He was talking about how we can train our brain to think like a successful person just as easily as we can train our brain to be mediocre. This is all possible with the words we tell ourselves day in and day out, the people we surround ourselves with, and the books and associations we keep.

Where ever we are in our life we can always strive to get better. You watch very successful people like Warren Buffett or Donald Trump they are addicted to personal growth. It doesn’t matter what the size of their bank account is, it is their drive to continue to grow and challenge themselves that keeps their fire burning.

It is very easy to coast through life. Work our 9 -5 job, and make excuses for why we don’t or shouldn’t do things. We start good habits i.e… a new workout routine, a good healthy eating plan, a new hobby and we get all fired up, and then it starts to get hard or we lose focus and we go right back to “what is comfortable”.

The key is to continue each day to take yourself out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself to do at least one thing each day that is uncomfortable.

If you listen to any of the great leaders they say the key to success is to do the small things day in and day out that make you uncomfortable to get you to where you want to be. These uncomfortable tasks might just be to talk to your local barista and ask them how their day is going, maybe add a little more weight to your workout than you are “used” to, or read a book that is going to challenge your mind.

These do not seem to be such big tasks, so why are we so afraid?

I recently decided to take a 90 day challenge of my own and write ten things I love about myself each day for 90 days. I got out my pen and paper first thing in the am last week and began to write. I tell clients to do this for me all the time, so I thought it would be a very quick and easy process and I would move on to my next task … Well I was in complete disbelief to learn it took me 30 minutes to write down ten things! How could that be?

I looked at my habits in my recent months and the answer was crystal clear. I was so focused on what everyone else was doing, I lost site on myself and my goals for myself. Instead of creating good habits for myself I had “allowed” excuses, negative thoughts, and bad habits to be my focus.

I am now on day 5 of my writing and it is much easier to write ten things now. I also notice that when those negative thoughts or habits want to creep back in, I can over power them with the positive because I have clarity of what that is!

So I challenge you Fit Ones, to take yourself out of your comfort zone and really begin to peel off the layers to get to the best “you” that you can be!

Fit Chic LA’s Guide to Having the Best Booty in the Biz…

the perfect butt

It is definitely hot pant season.. and with so many cute skinny jeans, leggings, and workout pants your booty has to look in tip-top shape…. or the pants will not accentuate the assets!

Working out and a healthy diet is defiantly the key to a what I like to call “Booty in a Box” it is so perfect it fits right into a nice little box with a bow on top…

Now how can we make our butts the best in the biz?

Here are four simple workout moves to keep your booty on the up and up; literally!

# 1 Walking Lunges:

Lunges are great for working the butt, hamstrings, and quadriceps.

The best part is you can do them just about anywhere too. Here is the proper lunge technique:

Stand up straight and take a deep breath in.

Lunge forward with a step slightly bigger than a normal step and lower yourself down by tensing your hamstrings and butt muscles.

Lower your back knee until it is kissing the ground. This knee should be about two or three inches behind your leading foot which you lunged with and make sure your knee is not extending over the front of your toes.

Stand back up slowly and repeat with the other leg.

#2 Kettlebell Swings:

These are actually an overall tremendous piece of equipment. They really work the core, legs, arms, and glutes so it’s a four in one. Swing the bell toward the back of your body and then thrust your hips and thighs forward while swinging your arms in front. Have a slight bend in your knee when you bring it back toward the ground and repeat.

A great workout is “Tabata” Kettlebell Swings.

#3 Chair pose
Begin standing with your feet together. Bend your knees and drop your hips, brining your weight into your heels. Drop your tailbone, firm your front ribs in and lift your arms up shoulder-width apart. Keep your shoulders relaxed in their sockets, and rotate the outer edges of your arms inward to broaden your upper back. Gaze upwards. Hold for eight breaths.

#4 Sprinting:

Go to your local track it is fun, a fantastic workout, and you don’t need a gym membership to participate! Sprinting Will Develop this Area Without Bulking Up and it is a great way to create muscle strength and definition in the legs and glutes. The glutes are the largest muscle in the body. It takes more of an explosive movement to really contract this muscle hard, and sprinting is the perfect subscription for maintaining and building a beautiful derriere!

Now you have the tools for all different types of fitness to create your ideal “Booty in the Box” !

Fit Chic LA’s 5 Loves….

list

I am currently right smack dab in the middle of “The Fittest Chic Challenge”. It is a weight loss challenge that I am doing with a group of women I train.

Each week, I create mini challenges within the “Big” challenge to keep them on track during the 7 weeks.

This week I challenged the women to write down the top ten things they love about themselves. Now this seems like an easy task, but the initial response surprised me. The women automatically were concerned they would not be able to come up with ten things…

huh…..?????

Why are we so good at complimenting everyone else and not ourselves? Why is it so hard to say what we like about ourselves and so easy to say all that is wrong with us. If you think about it, they both take the same energy but 1 option has far greater benefits than the later choice.

One of the traits that really attracts me about certain women is their self-confidence. Their ability to acknowledge compliments and feel good about themselves on the inside and out.

Why shouldn’t we love ourselves? What is not to love? Why do we choose to focus on the negative about ourselves instead of all the positive attributes we have to offer.

Along with the initial writing of the ten things they love, they also had to rewrite them each day and read them out loud to someone.

Low and behold, they started to really believe it and began to feel really good about it as well!

So today I challenge you Fit Ones to write down the top 5 things that you love about yourself, and for the next 7 days write them down each day and read them out loud to someone!

Begin to love yourselves for the beautiful you that you are!!!

Here are my five:

1. I have great abs

2. I am a good cook

3. I  am caring

4. I am tenacious

5. I love my eyes

Now it’s your turn Fit Ones…

Post your 5 in the comments below….

Paleo Halloween Bug Bites

This is a fun recipe that I found on a great kid-friendly website called  Paleo Parents , it is not only fun to make it is beneficial foods for you and your family!

Ingredients:

Bodies :

4 small (long) sweet potatoes, washed and peeled

Legs:

3 Brussels sprouts (cut in half after cooking)

6 asparagus tips

6 apple slices

6 banana spears

Stuffing:

10 pepperoni slices

10 small raw  cheese slices

Faces:

6 raisins

4 nuts

2 small onion wedges

2 small pepper wedges

2 pepper tips

4 small rosemary sprigs

Other:

2 garlic cloves (finely minced)

2 Tablespoons honey

1/3 cup melted grass-fed butter

1 Tablespoon of coconut oil

Directions:

Melt the butter in two separate small pans.  Preheat convection oven to 400 F.  Wash and peel the sweet potatoes.  Slice into each sweet potato every 1/4 inch but don’t cut all the way to the bottom.  Leave a larger slice on the head (fat) end.  Coat the bottom of the baking dish with coconut oil.  Brush each potato with the butter.  Bake until very soft all the way through (at least 1 hour).

While they are baking, get all the other body parts ready:
Add the honey to one of the butter pans.  Add the minced garlic to the other butter pan.  Prepare and set out all the little parts to arrange on each plate just before serving.  Cut up or fold the pepperoni and cheese slices to sizes that will fit into the potato cuts.  Get the cream cheese handy.  Cut the apple and banana pieces and have them ready to arrange as legs.  When the potatoes are 99% done, steam your Brussels sprouts and asparagus.

When the potatoes are done you have to work quickly to assemble them so they don’t get cold before serving.  I put them together one at a time and took pictures, but doing it for real you would set up an efficient assembly line. After assembly, I generously drizzled hot garlic butter on the savory ones and hot honey butter on the sweet ones.

Enjoy!
