I found a great quote in an article I was reading in Yahoo. It read:
“I can’t tell you the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone”.
I am a huge advocate of personal development. Never being satisfied and always figuring out your weaknesses so that you can make them strengths or at least get the right people in place to play to your strengths.
I recently was filling out a leadership questionnaire to find out where my weaknesses lie and the one key element that I really took away from it was: People Pleasing.
I am a People Pleaser to the max! I am constantly putting people in front of myself. Whether it be family, clients, friends etc… I am not making myself a priority and in the end I am not being the best “Annie” I truly can be to my family, clients, and friends.
When you neglect yourself you typically don’t take the time to focus on what you need to improve on, get done, or areas to excel because you are so focused on what everyone else needs from you.
My grandpa taught me a very good lesson, he said in the beginning years of business I was so focused on making the people who were not satisfied with what I was doing satisfied that I lost focused on what my “real” cause was in the first place and what I realized that these people who I was working so hard to please, were not going to be satisfied no matter what I did anyways! ”
It is very easy to put other things before yourself so that you don’t have to ever really work on you! Don’t let people be your cop-out, take a conscious effort to really stand up for yourself and put yourself first.
Don’t let others depict your future people pleasing will never leave you satisfied!
