We all the terms detoxes and cleanse relating to diet. There are many different types out there. I remember growing up watching my mom eat cabbage soup till she was blue in the face, or drink these intolerable tasting juices that were going to make her lean in 48 hours….
But did they?
There are millions of products out there and we hear of people losing the weight and then gaining it all (if not more) back.
For What?
Are we willing to cause long-term damage or risk our health to look good for an event?
Why not eat foods that are valuable to our health and at the same time look good in the process?
Because we are impatient and want the quick fix, even if we have to sacrifice our health in the process.
I remember doing the Master Cleanse about 7 years ago. I was on a mission to lose weight and I wanted to jump-start my weight loss. (again I was impatient, and not willing to put my health first).
I gorged the night before eating everything I could possibly get my hands on, since I knew I would not be eating anything solid for the next 12 days… sounds healthy right????
I started each morning off with 40 oz of salt water for breakfast (which inhibits you from leaving the house for at least two days), followed up by 80 to 100 oz of fresh lemon, Grade B Maple Syrup, and cayenne pepper.
Sounds super healthy huh…..
Then I proceeded to dose myself with this liquid for the next week while having to miss out on dinners with friends, get togethers etc… all because I didn’t want to go if I could not eat or drink.
So Why????
What did I really gain from this? I ended up losing the weight I wanted but I looked like a corpse with black circles, sunken in, and I looked like I needed an in and out burger at this point.
I ended up coming off the cleanse at day 8 and gorging at the Yard House and getting so sick I couldn’t even think of drinking another cup of the master cleanse mix.
What did I learn?
What did I gain?
I proved to myself I didn’t need to eat for 8 days, but so what! Not eating is NOT healthy so why was that what I was trying to accomplish. Also, by cleansing yourself you also lose a lot of the beneficial nutrients as well!
Here is a great blog from Marks Daily Apple on cleansing your body..
Think twice Fit Ones before the next “cleanse” or “detox” that you put your body through.
Stop and think maybe it would be better just putting positive nutrient enriched foods into my diet on a daily basis for long-term success, instead of that “quick” fix that really will not lead to overall success long-term!
